AVEENO BODY SUNSCREEN is incredible. During chemo, skin becomes significantly more photosensitive, making sun protection a medical necessity. Oil-free and paraben-free.

BEAUTY BY EARTH LIP BALM has an ultra-simple ingredient list if you’re wanting to avoid the “synthetic cocktail” of chemicals, parabens and petroleum products. Contains organic honey and propolis which draw in moisture and has natural antibacterial properties.

MONDAY HAIRCARE DRY SHAMPOO – Chemo fatigue can make showering impossible. Dry shampoo allows patients to feel clean and presentable from a seated or lying position. Keratin protein provides a temporary boost in strength and preventing further breakage.

JOHNSONS BABY SHAMPOO is highly recommended by surgery teams, during chemo treatment, because it is soft and gentle on sensitive skin.

AQUACARE HANDHELD SHOWER HEAD is perfect whether you are standing or using a shower chair. Your range of motion is limited. A handheld shower head will help get water exactly where you need it, without the struggle.

The SANGOHE SHOWER CHAIR is a life saver. Surgery recovery can be exhausting. A shower chair can provide much-needed support.

GERM-X HAND SANITIZER is a constant companion during chemo. It’s fast-acting and doesn’t leave that sticky, tacky feeling on your hands. I trusted this brand to keep me safe from infections during my most vulnerable weeks. It’s a ‘hospital bag’ essential.

PURELL ADVANCED HAND SANITIZER is a great brand as well. It’s refreshing, not sticky, and it doesn’t have a lingering chemical smell that triggers nausea.

My daily “shield” against infections. During chemo, I use CLOROX WIPES for everything from my phone to all surfaces at home. A must-have for keeping your recovery space safe without wasting your limited energy.

HIBICLENS Antimicrobial and Antiseptic Soap and Skin Cleanser – A hospital-grade antiseptic skin cleanser trusted by Oncology teams. Medical grade formula kills 99,9% of germs and creates a 24-hour protective barrier to keep killing bacteria. This is usually in the pre-surgery check list.

When white blood cell counts are low, even a small scratch needs immediate attention to prevent it from escalating. Chemo slows down the bodies normal healing speed. Doctors have recommended BACITRACIN to me, instead of using Triple Antibiotic Ointment.

MR. GREEN NAIL CLIPPERS are my go-to for safe, at-home nail care. Chemo can make your nails thin and fragile, so having a dedicated, sharp set of tools is a must to prevent snags and infections.

NEWGO ICE PACKS are my go-to for ‘chemo-skin’ inflammation and hot flashes. This set comes with 14 individual packs, so you’re never without relief. Use them cold for swelling and hot flashes, or warm them for localized aches.

5. Staying Strong and Eating Well

Prolonged sitting during long treatments can slow blood flow. This PUTNEN PORTABLE ELLIPTICAL LEG EXERCISER mimics walking to keep blood moving, which helps prevent Deep Vein Thrombosis. In my experience, it is a nice workout as well.

Looking to regain your strength? This FARINOK YOGA SET is a ‘home studio’ in a bag. The extra-thick mat is so much more comfortable for a body that’s been through treatment. I love this YOGA set to help with stretching, meditating and regaining focus.

THE CANCER FIGHTING KITCHEN COOKBOOK is not just a cookbook, but a roadmap for using food as additional medicine. It features nutrient-dense, delicious recipes specifically to combat treatment side effects like nausea, fatigue, and taste changes. I love the yummy recipes!

STAINLESS STEEL WATER BOTTLE FROM WATERSY. Many patients find that ice-cold water is one of the few things that helps settle a “chemo stomach” or eases mouth sores. This bottle keeps water ice cold for 24 hours.

ONE A DAY MULTIVITAMIN FOR WOMEN. Treatment can make food taste unappealing. Multivitamins can act as a safety net to ensure the body still receives essential micronutrients during periods of poor intake. Helps with bone health, energy metabolism and immune function which can all be impacted by treatment.

METHYLATED MULTIVITAMIN FOR WOMEN. If your body is unable to convert the standard form of vitamins into active forms, methylated vitamins bypass this roadblock, providing the “active” version the body needs.

STOOL SOFTENERS are the one recovery essential you may not hear about. Post surgery medications and anesthesia can cause uncomfortable constipation. This brand offers the same active ingredients as Colace, but a fraction of the price.

MIRALAX, when combined with a stool softener, is referred to as the “Power Couple” for post-op recovery. Softeners keep things from getting difficult, but MiraLAX keeps everything moving.

The ASAKUKI ESSENTIAL OIL DIFFUSER is a nightstand staple. It’s a humidifier to help with dry “chemo-air” and a diffuser for your favorite essential oils. The remote makes it so easy to use when you’re resting, and the auto-shutoff will give you peace of mind if you drift off to sleep.
